Worldcup.mobi up for sale
January 20th, 2010
I only own a few .mobi domains, but right now I am auctioning off what I consider to a very nice one indeed.
Worldcup.mobi is up for sale at Sedo, and the reserve price has already been met at 250 GBP ($408).
Obviously, this domain is great for creating a mobile-ready news site covering the upcoming football/soccer FIFA World Cup in South Africa. But in fact it can be used for any world cup in both sports and other areas over and over again.
“Worldcup” is long gone in all other major extensions, and none of them are for sale. So this is a pretty rare opportunity.
The auction ends tomorrow.

Update:
The auction ended at 2,272 GBP (aboout $3,690). It looked as if it was going to end at the initial bid, but within the last 15 minutes, a bidding war began between two new participants.
I am very pleased with the result as it represents an ROI of 460 percent in just over two months. Having said that, I also think it is a fair price for the new owner. If he can create a nice site in place for this summer’s football world cup, the investment could be recouped in a matter of days.
